[Results Announced] NDP Preview Tickets Giveaway

When I hosted the giveaway for my NDP Preview Tickets, I did not expect that the response will be overwhelming.

I have read every single e-mail from you guys (Thanks to a few of you who even went the extra mile to send me photos that showcase your Singaporean pride!)

Trust me, it was NOT easy for me at all as I felt EVERY single one of you deserve the tickets. So much that I started questioning myself "WHY CAN'T I HAVE MORE TICKETS TO GIVEAWAY?!"

After all, I only have one pair and I could only select one winner out of the lot.

After filtering the entries (Some entries are unfortunately disqualified), I decided to leave the fate to a lucky wheel. 

I had NO idea who would be the winner (No kelong here - I just wanted it to be a fair and square system) so I kept my fingers crossed and started spinning... ...

Looking back at my life... ...

Hello world!

I can't believe it has been SO LONG since I left my blog with cob webs piling all over - and to my friends who have been asking why my blog hasn't been updated... I appreciate that you guys are still following me. Yes, I hear you.

Life has been crazy lately - From happy moments to depressed ones, I would say it has been a rollercoaster. Apart from that, I have achieved certain "milestones" last year that I will be mentioning in this post!

1. I FINALLY DYED MY HAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN MY LIFE. 

Ok, I admit - I was not daring enough to get a bolder shade of maroon colour as I was supposed to have a filming assignment coming up in that following week. It was a very mild colour (obvious only under strong sunlight) but that would do for a first time. I still remembered how strongly I was against the dying of my hair in the past but eventually gave in to temptation. 

AND I DYED AGAIN DURING MY Hong Kong TRIP (Just weeks ago)

AND I DON'T KNOW WHY I KEPT OPENING MY MOUTH WHEN I TOOK BOTH PHOTOS ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS *rolls eyes*

Pictured here on the left is my Polytechnic friend whom is still one of my best buddies (Thanks for going on a trip with me, babe!) and both of us stumbled upon a salon in Hong Kong that provided decent quality service. We went for purple /magenta shade of colour for our hair and I was really pleased with the results! I don't really fancy strong colours so bleaching is a no-go for me.

2. I WENT CRAZY during my company event and dressed up as an unimaginable character

Yes.. You guessed it. Harley Quinn.

I love her exaggerated style of outfit in the movie and little did I know that I would eventually be sponsored and dressed up as her for my company event. I was really afraid that it would turn out bad because I was my own make-up artist and I do not have much experiences in such exaggerated make-up. Many of my friends always have the impression that I am a cosplayer (I don't know why!) but I am not. NOT. NOT. So please - I hope you professional cosplayers out there won't laugh at a poor human like me who only dresses up once in a blue moon.

3. GRADUATED from Hark Music

Yay! I guess learning anything that is related to music is something that I will never think of quitting. Don't get me wrong, I am just someone who is a hobbyist of singing - and I'll never expect myself to be a professional but I do feel proud of myself for coming this far for my hobby!

4. Had my first ever debut performance

Even till now, I can't believe that I stood up there and performed. It wasn't a totally positive experience (to be honest) for me as I happened to fall sick during that period of time and couldn't recover fast enough. With a choked-up throat and strained vocal chords, I tried to give it my best shot . But what left the deepest impression on me was the support I had from my family, friends and colleagues who came down to sit through my performance!

I was shocked and touched beyond words when I saw the turnout. Some of them actually stay a long distance away from my performance venue but they made time to come down. 

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MY LOVELY PEOPLE. I LOVE YOU ALL. 

4. GRADUATED from Acting/Drama lessons in Level 1 @ Zoom Academy

Although I have been involved in a little bit of acting here and there during my 'younger' days, I have always wanted to take up professional lessons and understand more about the trade.

I am currently into my Level 2 acting now, and am blessed to have the opportunity to be taught by one of the veteran actresses in the TV industry, Chen Bi Feng. (I believe the older generation can recognise her from the many TV shows that she acted in!)

5. Became a blog-writer for Mitsueki Blog

When I was approached with the opportunity to join Mitsueki's team of blogwriters, I was honoured. (If you are reading this... Thanks, babe!)

Writing for her blog has given me tons of opportunities to attend media events and food tastings as well. (I have to admit that I gained weight after becoming sort of a food blogger... Which is not exactly a bad thing considering the fact that I don't usually gain weight)

6. Went on a radio interview by JIA 88.3 FM

It was a very last minute interview (I was contacted and interviewed on the same day) It was my first-ever experience on a radio show and thanks to my family and friends for being so supportive! 

7. First JB Trip with my colleague buddies

Nothing beats having colleagues who become your buddies.

It has always been a thing - To go on a half-day JB trip for some games and good food. Thanks for having me- It is always fun being with those quirky people.

8. Brought my mum back to hometown

Although I have been to KL countless times with my family, but this was the first time I took charge and brought my mum to her hometown. A big thank-you to our dear relatives in Malaysia who took time to drive us around and even treated us to great food. Both my mum and I were thankful.

9. Took up new hobby 

This is an addictive hobby that I took up after being inspired by so many designs online. The materials were sourced from Taobao and I wouldn't say they are exactly cheap. BUT ENOUGH TO KEEP ME OCCUPIED FOR THAT FEW HOURS YET FEELING ACHIEVED AT THE END OF THE DAY.

I really wish I have more time to do more of them now.

10. DID MY FIRST EYELASH EXTENSIONS

I have always contemplated to do eyelash extensions as I am a VERY lazy person. So much that I was afraid that it would be difficult to maintain. However, thanks to a sponsorship opportunity through Mitsueki, I decided to give a try and understand more about the procedure personally from the service provider. 

And there is no turning back. I loved the extensions and now I can't imagine life without it! If you would like to read about my experience, do stay tuned to Mitsueki Blog as the entry will be featured on there!

11. Chemical Peeling treatment with Dr Tyng Tan

I have been undergoing chemical treatment for my acne issues for 2 years now and I am always looking forward to the sessions. They work in clearing up acne and lightening acne scars, but maintenance is still needed to be done to ensure that there will be no breakouts. 12. Knowing a wonderful person who came into my life

 I think everyone probably knows who he is by now and to those who don't & still keep asking me who the heck is this frequently-mentioned name on my social media accounts, he is my lovely FISH.

He has got to be the most patient, nicest and talented people I've ever known. I know I am someone who isn't the easiest to get along with due to my temper, but he has NEVER ONCE thrown temper at me and still treats me like a princess. Most importantly, he respects me for who I am.

13. I got famous

So famous that I spotted people printing my face and using them as wrapping papers which were eventually thrown to the rubbish chute. Thanks, huh.

Birthday Celebration at British Hainan (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED RESTAURANT!!)

When it comes to sourcing for ideal restaurants/cafes for birthday celebrations, I have to admit it isn't an easy task. 

Both Ah Miao and I had something in mind - To surprise our other BFF, Pei Wen, with a self-made video of us writing our own song and singing to her.

Our ideal plan was to have it played on a TV/projector screen in the midst of our dinner in a restaurant so it would take her by surprise.

For weeks, we planned on the song after work and met up for rehearsals .. to eventually recording it. It was our first time doing something like this, so we were keeping our fingers super crossed that everything would turn out smoothly!!

"BUT WHICH RESTAURANT IS WILLING TO HELP US?!" I asked, helpless. 

It was only a 3-person dinner, and we were completely clueless of which restaurant to turn to for such request.

It had been days of online researching and it seemed that there wasn't many positive results.

BUT ONE.

I came across photographs of this unique-looking restaurant online and was eventually led to their Facebook page.

They have everything that caught my attention. From the retro theme,style to vintage decorations, it isn't difficult to be attracted. (Since I am such a retro/vintage fan myself!)

In addition, there was quite a number of highly-raved reviews from satisfied customers who posted on their page.

I decided to get in touch with the restaurant owner with my request (Honestly, I did not pin high hopes) , and waited for their reply.

Much to my pleasant surprise, I received a favorable response from the owner the next day - and YES (YES! YES!) he was willing to help us!! I was so excited that I almost cried. (HAHA)

We made arrangements on how I would reach one hour earlier for the preparations, such as burning our video on a disc to be played on their player, etc. (Oh my, it sounds so much like we are planning on a  marriage proposal. HAHA. But hey - It can be a good idea, no?)

When the actual day finally arrived, I prepared the video which I had burned into a CD-ROM

and cabbed down to the restaurant with high anticipation. 

As my cab was approaching the restaurant, I could feel the excitement building up in me.
The restaurant was at Paya Lebar - Being someone who lives in the West part of Singapore, it felt like a mini adventure.

What can I say, the restaurant is such a GEM.
As I did not come with an intention to blog, I did not bring my usual camera with me (I really regretted not doing so!!!) Nonetheless, I made do with my phone camera - so please do pardon the poor quality. At least, I have the courtesy to share with all my readers this rare gem! :)
 If you've never heard about this place, I am sure you will be tempted to visit it after reading my entry.

I was really intrigued by the interior design of the restaurant. It has a retro feel to it , and it was almost like stepping into a time machine!
From what I've heard, there are actually real, vintage collectibles on display. Even if you are not here for the food, I am sure you will be impressed by the ambiance.

I met with the restaurant owners and I have to say that they are one of the most friendliest people I've ever came across.

They were hospitable and assisted me with the birthday preparations. (They even gave me a large table for the occasion, which I was really thankful.) 

While waiting for my two dear BFFs to arrive, I was served the menu to look through. OH BOY, did I salivate just by flipping through the pages.

I did a double take when I saw this on their menu:

Braised lamb shank!!!

I have always LOVED, LOVED lamb shanks. And look at how the illustration picture was portrayed!!!

Unfortunately, I did not get to try it on that day as my BFFs were not really hungry (and Ah Miao is a vegetarian) and I was afraid that I would not be able to finish such a large portion myself. (But I will make it a point to come again and try it someday!!!)

We ordered the oven-baked fish instead and I almost fainted when it was served to our table.

Again, I would like to remind you that I have no reason to exaggerate in my entry because I am not paid to advertise for them. It was really so good that I felt it NEEDS to be shared.

In case you are wondering, the item wrapped in aluminium foil is actually a potato being cut into 4 slices, and coated with bacon + sauce that will send your taste buds tickling and yearning for more after each bite.

No, I am not exaggerating. It's really THAT good.

I can't even begin to emphasize how well-marinated the fish is. It seemed like the perfect blend of white sauce with the softness of meat. It tasted so good when chewing it, and even better during the after-taste. If I had to rate this, I would give it a 10 out of 10. And mind you - I am someone who is very particular about fish meat.

I KNOW A GOOD FISHY DISH WHEN I EAT ONE. (LOL)

Now, here's another MUST-TRY item:

I've forgotten the exact name of this dish, but I have to say this is one of the best chicken meat I have ever tasted in my entire life. No kidding.

My eyes literally bulged during my first bite.

SO FREAKING TENDER - It's magical.

Let me take a close-up:-

I have no idea how they made it, but the meat was soooo soft that the skin slid off it once I attempted to cut it.

Every bite was tantalizing and I kept exclaiming "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD". HAHAHA.

The meat was very well-marinated and the taste was on-point.

I told my BFFs that the combination of the chicken meat and sauce is like a "perfect match in heaven". LOL. I had no other words to describe it. 

The fries are similar to Mos Burger fries - and I like it that way!

As an appetizer, we ordered this item on the menu as well - 

BACON WITH CHEESE MELT - Combined with Portobello mushroom
(Just the description is enough to make anyone salivate, pls!)

It's quite small in size, and you will feel like it is not enough! 

It's very rich in taste and I actually like it very much despite the fact that I am not a big fan of such mushrooms.

And the owners were so kind to offer everyone a complimentary mango pudding that was so tasty!

In the midst of our meal, the boss reminded me of the birthday video that was supposed to be played. He was so kind to make a special announcement to all the guests who were present and everyone shared our joy in celebrating Pei Wen's birthday!

Our birthday plan was actually a bit screwed up due to the last minute incompatibility issues between the CD-ROM and the restaurant's player, but thank God Ah Miao brought her laptop along - so we ended up playing the video on the  laptop's screen while the boss helped us to project our audio through the speakers.

Our singing voices filled the whole restaurant as Pei Wen was watching the video. Oh man, we were blushing throughout the 4 minutes! Nonetheless, it was a surprise success!!

I wish I could share the video on here, but sorry - it's meant for our dear friend only... HAHAHA.

We were so glad to see Pei Wen smiling so happily after watching the video :) All our efforts definitely paid off!

And it wouldn't have been possible without the help from the bosses at British Hainan!

Are Polyclinics for REAL?!

Sooo.. A few days ago, I came down with fever and had to call in sick.

Visiting private doctors are not on my priority list as their services can get really expensive, hence I always choose the cheaper option like most people - Visiting Polyclinics.

But how much can you trust the diagnosis by Polyclinic doctors?

I am not trying to say that ALL polyclinic doctors are bad. No. I believe some of them can be really good,  but probably it was unfortunate that my PERSONAL encounters with them were not on the positive side.

My most recent experience was one of the more appalling ones.

 I suppose it is a standard procedure for everyone to have their temperature/blood pressure checked before waiting in line to see the doctor. Everyone knows it.

To my surprise, I was told that checking of my temperature was unnecessary and the staff did not bother to attend to me after that.

Another patient who was waiting in line as well was surprised when I told her that they did not take my temperature.

Well, since I thought the doctor would be doing the necessary later on - I just sat down and waited for my turn.

After 2 hours of what seemed to be endless waiting, my number was finally called. 

"Hi, how may I help you today?" the doctor asked.

"Oh, I had high fever yesterday night but it seemed to have gone down today. I'm feeling a bit groggy though."

At this point, ANY standard procedure would be to at least CHECK my temperature, right? 

Well, WRONG.

There was NO checking of my condition at all, and I was only told to turn around so he could listen to my heartbeat through the stethoscope.

"Okay, very good".  He concluded.

"Any flu or running nose?"

Remembering that I indeed had running nose earlier that morning, I reported accordingly.
"Yes, I had it this morning, but I do not have it now."

 So that was it.

Imagine my surprise when I collected my medication.

It turned out to be a packet of medicine specially for RUNNING NOSE.

So here's another encounter:

I remembered there was once I had a slight infection on the side of my face. It was so freaking' itchy and I had nasty little bumps that were really ugly. Errk. I went to the Polyclinic to get my condition diagnosed and was told by the doctor that those were HIVES.

Seriously? It doesn't take a fool to see that those nasty bumps have nothing to do with hives. (It's a pity that I did not take any photo of my condition back then else you guys would know what I meant)

I went to another doctor in the clinic eventually and was told a different story. The second doctor told me that they looked like they were ONLY PIMPLES and gave me a pimple cream.

And behold - Both are doctors from the same polyclinic.

One of my friends shared with me her encounter, too -and hers was more of a horrific experience. 

She was concluded to be normal and healthy at the polyclinic but was later found to be a tumour when examined by a specialist.

ISN'T THIS RIDICULOUS OR WHAT?! IT CAN KILL A PERSON!!!

There is another thing I realized about Polyclinic doctors - Some of them treat the patients like they are here to CHEAT THEIR WAY FOR A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (MC).

Personally, I am one person who do not like to take MC.

There were times I rejected MCs from Polyclinic doctors for non-serious issues. Do they think that everyone's purpose for visiting them is to GET A MC?!

Does that give them the right not to give a proper diagnosis? 

I have always felt that they are not 100% serious about giving a proper diagnosis - and more often that not, issue MC like they are FREE. 

It's no wonder why many students like to abuse the system and get countless MCs just to skip school lessons. 

I had no idea before, but I DO NOW. Witnessing how the system works in polyclinics, I can only shake my head and seek private clinics in future. Granted that they may be more expensive, but the diagnosis is more precise and I don't get brushed off easily, at least.

SPear Launch : 7th June 2013

I have always been a HUGE, HUGE fan of singing and music (Yeah, my neighbors can testify that! I believe they have all heard my crazy singing in the bathroom. LOL)

So of course, when I was invited to Singapore Polytechnic's very own SPear concert... You can imagine how excited I was. (I am always this ecstatic when it comes to anything about music.)

Just in case you are wondering what SPEAR  is all about, it is an all-new record label established by Singapore Polytechnic - which provides potential music students with opportunities to be groomed as artistes and music producers!

Here is what SPEAR stands for:

When I first heard about it, I was like "WHOA?! Are you serious?!"

 As a SP graduate myself, I must say that I am feeling damn envious of those students.

Run by Singapore Polytechnic's Diploma in Music and Audio Technology (DMAT), the framework allows the students to learn and integrate all their skill sets; from music composing, arranging, recording and performance to making and marketing a record.

(Imagine being in a course that you are passionate for - and gaining those experiences are really a bonus!)

Students will also be given opportunities to showcase their own original creations and be picked up by major players in the music industry!!

This is really something that sounds too good to be true for any music enthusiast student.. But it really is true!

*jealous*

Of course, it sure is a bit competitive to be able to enter this programme as only 60 students are accepted. 

SPEAR record label was officially launched on 7th June 2013 at The Coliseum, Resorts World Sentosa, and I am very honored to be there! (Thank you , Ms Yvonne, for the awesome invitation.)

As I have never been to The Coliseum before, I spotted ushers who directed us there .. And its's near Hard Rock Hotel.

Of course, how could I NOT take a photo at the venue?!

(Ah... I forgot to turn on the flash and the photo turned out blurry.)

Yep, that's Ah Miao and me. Both of us are proud SP graduates! Hahaha.

And... We were in! The SP staff and students were really friendly.. They ushered us and even offered to help take photos.. Aww, thank you all!

We were issued passes.. And I really love the design! Haha.

Yeah, it's me - SG Complain Queen!

Trying to cam-whore with our passes before the event started... And here I realized Ah Miao had held her pass the other way round. LOL.

The SPear concert officially began at 7.30pm, and loud screams and cheer can be heard from the crowd.

It was really heartwarming to see all of the SP students being so supportive and enthusiastic! 

OH YES! 

I was really SUPER impressed by the presentation of the show. 

It portrayed so much professionalism!

Everyone mesmerized by the grand opening..

And this was Celestia aka Deborah kick-starting the show with her really awesome vocals.

The lighting made the stage looked... magical.

And do you know? She is only 23 years old and already bursting with so much talent!

Her musical style/genre includes a range of electric pop, folk and world music - consisting of orchestral based pieces with Japanese music influences.

Here we are, trying to take a picture while the stage was shining with its blue lighting. Hahaha. Nice, huh?!

I believe she has alot of fans and supporters! I could hear loud cheers from the crowd after her segment ended. Ah, I am not surprised!

This is Beth Yap, the main vocalist and bass.

Their group is quite huge as there are 9 members (with the oldest member only 20 years old!! Can you believe that?!) - but that didn't affect their performance at all.
Their musical style/genre are experimental and original creations.

When she first appeared on stage, I thought she looked like an angel dressed in white. Haha.

Look like, right??!

I've always admired people who are so musically inclined. And being able to play a violin makes a  girl look so beautiful!

And being able to sing is such a plus point!

She is only 20 years old as well! I'm really impressed by Singapore Polytechnic's young talents.
V'Bel was a Grade 8 violin student whom picked up the skill at a tender age of 5 and eventually passed with flying colors due to her skills and years of intensive training.. Not to mention that she was trained under the tutelage of the father of Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) Assistant Leader Kong Zhao Hui!

Although she has no prior singing experience, she has been training extensively for the past couple of months in preparation for her EP launch! (Yes.. All the best, V'Bel! I believe you can do it!)

Their group consists of 5 members, with the oldest member being 21 years old. (Ah, so much younger than me.. I feel so old now. LOL)

Their musical style/genre belongs to Pop rock bass category, similar to alternative rock.

And do you know that they have performed at the TEDx Youth Singapore in 2012, Young and Free Esplanade programme and Music Fiesta in 2011 & 2012?!

Gosh... After viewing all of the artistes in SPear launch, I have to admit that I am very inspired by them. Yes, they may be young, but they are already living their dreams and making such intensive progress.
Singapore definitely needs more young talented people like them! :)

I find it a pity that I didn't get the chance to take a photo with Singapore Polytechnic's current principal , Mr Tan Choon Shian as he had left the place. :( Aww.. But it was a pleasure meeting him at the launch!
