Updates on Chemical Peeling - June 2018

It has been a long time since my last update on my chemical peeling process.

And I am here to debunk some of the myths surrounding chemical peeling.

I've received enquiries about chemical peeling and I thought it would be good to address them here from my perspective! I do hope it will be helpful/useful to many out there who are having doubts of the procedure.

1) How long have you been doing chemical peeling? Are there any side effects?

Answer: I think I have been doing chemical peeling treatment for the past... 4 years?! You may refer to my posts over the years. And yes, I am still with Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetic and Hair Clinic. (Seriously, she has gotta be the most friendliest doctor around!).
As for side effects, there isn't any (based on my own personal opinion). The only "side effects" I've gotten were rosy cheeks right after the procedure with a slight burning sensation, which is completely  normal! (It means that the chemical peeling is working its magic on your skin!) And the sensation only lasted for a good old 10 minutes at most.

2) Is it painful during the procedure? Don't you feel any form of pain, ever?

Answer: No. Like what I've mentioned above, the only feeling I've felt was a slight prickly burning sensation. It is totally bearable for me (I don't have a very high pain threshold, by the way) So, don't worry at all!

3) Did you really experience your skin "falling off" after the procedure?

Answer: Now that sounds funny..  Haha. No, I did not experience any skin peeling after the procedure. I remembered there was once or twice I did see white-colored tiny scabs on my face, but they were so minimal that I was not sure if those were resulted from chemical peeling. Nonetheless, I did not really bother about it. However, results vary for individuals. If you happen to experience skin peeling, just don't touch or peel anything from your face!

4) Does it take a long time for the chemical peeling process?

Answer: No, it's VERY fast. Before you even realise it, you are pretty much done! It will be around 15 - 20 minutes. It won't take up much of your time, which is a bonus point for busy individuals! In addition, they go by appointment basis, so you will be allocated a time slot.

5) Is there anything that you have to avoid after the procedure?

Answer: I guess it's only the sunlight for the time being? But no worries even if you have to go out under the sun. Just apply ample sunblock! The lovely staff at Dr Tyng Tan clinic will put on sunblock for you after the procedure and you can carry on your daily activities.

6) Do your pimples/acne/scars really disappear, like forever???

Answer: In all honesty, nothing is forever. Chemical peeling is effective in keeping your pimple and acne under control. At the same time, it diminishes existing scars (but you may have to go through a few sessions to see the evident results.) I do still experience new breakouts (but that is due to my laziness in removing make-up at times and hormonal changes during menstruation). However, I can definitely vouch that my condition is way better than before. I used to have full of pimples all over my forehead but they are all under control now, except for a few pop-outs here and there sometimes.

Here was an old pic... You will be amazed.

And this is an after-photo (Pardon the CUI face but I am just trying to show the effects on my forehead!) TOTALLY NO EDITING OR FILTER HOR.

7) Am I suitable for chemical peeling?

Answer: Honestly, this depends on each individual. Dr Tan will be accessing your skin condition during the consultation stage prior to any procedure being carried out. So no worries on that part. Based on her professionalism, she will be able to offer you the best advice as each person has different skin type and condition. You will be in good hands for sure! If you are interested in a consultation, do feel free to refer to the below details. (BONUS: Quote my blog sgcomplainqueen for a waiver of consultation fees!)

That's basically Part 1 of my answers to FAQs. Should you have any other questions, you can feel free to  e-mail me and I will try my best to answer you if I can!

[Update] My Chemical Peeling Journey - August 2017

"Your skin is getting better", said a friend whom peered closely at my skin.
I smiled.
"Really?" I thought he was just trying make me happy.

"Yeah.. What did you do to your skin?"

My smile grew even wider.
"Wow, this means my Chemical Peeling actually works!!?"

Honestly, I did not expect the results to be that visible but I guess my monthly Chemical Peeling treatment at Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetics and Hair Clinic paid off.

When I traced back older photographs of myself, I couldn't believe that I actually lived my life looking like that:-

The amount of acne I had on my forehead was just downright unappealing. (I believe there are many young girls out there who may be facing similar issues too.)

I was a victim of uncontrollable acne that appeared on my forehead and other areas of face once every few days.
Yes, it was depressing.

This was taken in Year 2015:

I remembered I had to use lots of concealer to hide them - and that did not help because application of too much make-up resulted in breakouts too (I guess my skin is not suitable for make-up products). What I really needed was a long-term solution for my issues so I DO NOT need to depend on make-up products to achieve a flawless look. (I know it's impossible to look flawless lah.. But I just wanted those ugly acne to disappear forever. Grrr)

And here's an unglamorous just-woke-up look but it's my current state now in Year 2017 - Completely taken without photo edit, filter or make-up (except for my semi-permanent eyelash extensions)

I can't believe I can actually do this (showing off my forehead directly) without fearing what others think of my acne now.

So if you were to ask me if chemical peeling has worked for me, I would definitely give you a YES with two thumbs up. (I have been undergoing the sessions for more than a year now and each session will have evident results)

THANK YOU DR TYNG TAN!!!!!

I really feel secretly happy each time when I look at myself in the mirror and find the acne getting lesser. Those acne were a confidence killer- I am sure many can relate to that.

I have never thought that my acne could clear up so much (after the sessions) and it does lessen the hassle of filtering my photos (LOL).

Of course, if you were to ask me - my skin does not always look so clear and radiant. There were times when I did not take proper care of my skin and breakouts would significantly appear.
(It does NOT mean that you can do without proper care for your face even after chemical peeling sessions!) So do note that taking care of your face and proper cleansing ARE STILL REQUIRED.

My 3rd Mosaic Rejuvenation Treatment

Here's another update of my Mosaic Rejuvenation Treatment (Yes, it's my 3rd session already!) at Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetics and Hair Clinic!

I'm sure you guys are more or less familiar with the process after reading my first entry. [If you haven't, you can read it HERE]:

In this entry, there will be a SPECIAL video featuring the process of my 3rd Mosaic Rejuvenation Treatment.
(Yes, you can watch it in HD too!)

Some photos taken at the day of my treatment:
(The reason why my face looks kinda' reflective in the below photos is due to the numbing cream!)

I kinda' have pimple outbreak due to continuous late night sleep (Blame it on myself as I did not really maintain my condition)
But the Mosaic Rejuvenation Treatment helped me in lightening the scars once again -I'll be posting more before/after photos in my next and final entry! :)
All of my photographs will be totally unedited (I am lazy to photoshop anything anyway), so the effects of the treatments will be shown as they are.
Once again, if you are interested to find out more about the treatments - here's the website:

[Review] My Skin Regeneration Treatment at Aesthetic and Hair Clinic Singapore

**Warning: Picture-heavy post!! Haha*

Here's a thank you to all my readers who have been following my Chemical Peeling Journey previously! Ever since the entries were published, I have received several e-mails from a few readers who have shared their acne issues with me as well. It pains me to know of how my young readers have been battling acne since a tender age.

I'm glad my entries benefited some of you who are interested in the treatment too. It has definitely been one of the most rewarding choices I've ever made in going for the Chemical Peeling treatment.
As most of you would have known by now, Dr Tyng Tan was my doctor and she was kind enough to recommend me another treatment that would aid in lightening acne scars, blemishes and flaws on my face.
The treatment is known as MOSAIC Total Skin Regeneration. (Not sure if any of you have heard of it, but now you do!)
I'll explain more about this treatment in specific details at the later part of this entry, so be sure to keep on reading if you are interested!

Given my condition (which varies between different individuals), she has suggested 5 sessions for me (with each session being 1 month apart)
I would be lying if I were to tell you I wasn't feeling nervous about the treatment.
I know this would be something different from Chemical Peeling as it involves the usage of laser, which sounded quite scary to me!

Of course... It helps knowing the fact that Dr Tyng Tan will be handling the procedure.
(Not that I am trying to be a boot-licker here but I have total faith in her!!)

I am going to be on a new journey this time with the Total Skin Regeneration treatment, so do stay tuned to my entries as I'll be posting updates of my condition - a totally honest review with unedited photographs!

Here I am, back again at the clinic!

And this is one of the rarer chances you may get to see me without make-up on.
(I totally lack confidence in posing for photos without make-up, but for the sake of the treatment which I had to go without.... I'll make the sacrifice!!)

Here's the lovely Ms Vivian attending to me again!

Getting ready for the cleansing of face.
(As you can see, I have some dark scars near my chin area. They look more obvious than they are in the pictures!)

LOL. I don't know why I had that expression on my face. Now all of you have seen the most unglam side of me. Ahem.

Ms Vivian gently cleansing my face in progress... ...
(It was so comfortable that I thought I could fall asleep!)

Mmmm...

Now, this is the interesting part. She applied numbing cream on my face after the cleansing, and I was told that this would numb my face (so that I wouldn't feel that much of any possible pain from the treatment later)
The numbing effect would last for 4-6 hours!

I was feeling anxious and curious as I have never imagined my whole face being numbed before.
I was quite skeptical of the cream initially, but I was proven wrong!

Here's me after the application of numbing cream. I could feel the numbness and tightness setting in! Was trying my best to smile here.
Gosh, look at those dark eye circles!!!!
(Do note that I have not used any photo filter effects in my photos in this entry. What you see is how the photo was originally taken!)

My right eye was actually a bit swollen on that day, which I didn't know why either. Probably a lack of sleep from the night before :(

I was curious how the numbing cream looked like... So here it is, with permission from Ms Vivian. Haha. It's interesting how powerful the cream is!
Imagine how I could prank an enemy with it while he/she is taking a nap. Just an application around his/her mouth and it shall numb him/her from talking! LOL, just kidding. I am such a kind soul, how in the world would I have an enemy? *inserts angelic look here*

Zen mode. Face getting numb every minute... Tick tock tick tock.

(I thought my hair looked beautiful until I saw this photo. DAMN.)

Close-up shot of my face.

Ms Vivian cleaning off the numbing cream... Oh no.. This means that my face is now almost ready for the treatment!

Soon, I was told to get ready for Dr Tyng Tan to begin the treatment.
While waiting for her to enter the room, I was trying to hard to control those butterflies in my stomach.
Even though I knew what I was in for, but the feeling of being physically there and awaiting to have my face worked on was making me anxious!
Thoughts such as "Will this be painful?" appeared in my mind, even though it was reportedly said to be painless.

Soon, Dr Tyng Tan entered the room with her cheerful smile (I felt comforted already!) and explained to me briefly about the treatment.

"The whole procedure only lasts for about 2 minutes!" she said optimistically.
I relaxed my muscles. The thought of how the effects will benefit my face eventually gave me the courage to brave myself for it.

"So.. Are you ready?"
I nodded.

 Zap, zap, zap zap.
Dr Tyng Tan's hand movement was fast and steady as she controlled the equipment.
"You look like you are frowning," she remarked. "Is it painful?"

(I did not realize I was frowning! Actually, I was feeling more of shocked than pain as the equipment felt prickly on my skin. Personally, it is not really 100% painless - but definitely tolerable. I am one that is afraid of pain, so I believe majority of the humans would not have issues with it! HAHA)

There was one point when the intensity has to be increased and the pain level was slightly higher than the former. It's still within my tolerable limit though. (They felt prickly against my skin)

Dr Tyng Tan confidently working on my face.

Wow, I love this photo! It looks so professional as though it's from some advertisement! Hahaha.

I love how Dr Tyng Tan is always seen to be smiling in photos.

Get ready for a photo that may possibly be one of the more glamorous ones ever showcased on my blog.
But being a honest and transparent blogger (*takes pride*), I'll post photos that are true to my experiences.

.
.

Here, a photo of me straight after the treatment. I KNOW I looked like a roasted pig here (and I didn't know I was frowning, really!)

Don't worry, I only looked like a roasted pig for probably only 10 minutes! The swell went down pretty fast.
The after-treatment sensation was actually quite comfortable. I felt like my face has been pricked, but in a "shiok" way. The feeling was indescribable but boy, was I glad that there really was not much pain felt! The numbing cream helped alot, I guess.

Immediately, I was given a cleansing and had facial session to "cool" my face.

  After cleansing.
See? My face wasn't so red now. :)

The cooling mask!!! It was to be laid on my face for 20 minutes.
Ms Vivian even switched the lights off so I could have a short nap. Awww.

Really shiok leh.

Dr Tyng Tan giving me some advice =D

OK, sleeping time while the mask as doing its work on my face!

After the removal of mask, my face was back to almost normal again!! No more redness.!!

Ms Vivian proceeded to apply post-treatment balm and sun-block on my skin.
(I was encouraged not to go under the sun that much after the treatment)

I looked like I had fallen asleep.. Did I??

Yay, done with the treatment! :) I looked better, didn't I?!

As I have promised earlier in my post to explain more about the Total Skin Regeneration treatment, here it is.

Total Skin Regeneration has the ability to deliver substantial improvements while leaving the skin's outer most layer unaffected.

Following a single session, one can notice that the skin will be brighter and re-generated with renewed collagen, and it is reportedly said that the skin will become even tighter and scars will dramatically improve after several more sessions!

Personally, it is a convenient treatment that does not leave a visible wound (other than looking a bit sun burned after the procedure). However, it does not affect daily activities at all and I was told that I can even apply make-up after the treatment!

What types of skin are suitable for the treatment?
-Scars such as acne scar, surgical scars, traumatic scars, burn scars and striae.
-Rejuvenation of Non-Surgical Areas (Neck, chest, and hands ,etc)
-Wrinkles and Skin Laxity
-Sun Damaged skin
-Large pore, rough skin texture
-Pigmented lesions such as Melasma, age spots and dyschromias
-Uneven skin stones

Here's a random photo of me making my next appointment at the clinic - I can't wait for my second session already!
I was given a post-treatment balm (which I have to apply twice daily on my face). The post-treatment balm is recommended to be stored in the fridge and it was sooo cooling when I applied it on my face everytime!

Here's a pic of my face condition on the same day (at night)

A close-up shot of my face. Just some minor red patches here and there.

Pardon the messy kitchen background. LOL

This is Day 2 and I felt that my skin is improving already!

I think it really improved!!
I went to work that following week and one of my colleagues (who did NOT know I underwent the treatment at all) asked me "Did you just do facial?"

WHOA, I felt immensely happy because this meant that the treatment was EFFECTIVE!!
"NO!!" I replied with a smile. "I did skin treatment! Do read my blog to find out more if you are interested what I exactly did."

That's me now:

My Chemical Peeling Journey with Dr Tyng Tan

As many of you know, I have been plagued by constant Acne issues (The condition wasn't that bad initially; but somehow got worst during my late teenage years due to factors such as exam stress, etc)
Like most lazy bums, I am one who did not really bother to do adequate facial care and used make-up to conceal my acne whenever I attend events, etc. Heck, I only have my ownself to blame for encouraging the growth of acne on my skin!

Somehow, I didn't have much confidence whenever I was seen without make-up (I even have friends appearing shocked and asking me about my acne when I met them without make-up on!) I was saddened. At the same time, I was at a loss of solutions.

As troubled as I was (and with my endless search of solutions), I came to learn about several treatments that *might* revive my skin.
Not sure if you guys have heard of it before, but that's Chemical Peeling. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_peel)

It is something I would never have imagined myself doing, but somehow I was quite tempted by the positive results that I have seen online.
There are actually not many clinics in Singapore that offer such treatments (even if there are, finding a GOOD doctor is another issue as I believe nobody wishes to risk their face should it fall in to the wrong hands!!)

So...After much sourcing and consideration, I decided to take the plunge and settle for Aesthetics And Hair Clinic by Dr Tyng Tan.

So.. What is a Chemical Peeling, you ask?
As quoted on Wiki, "A chemical peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin."

I'm sure you guys will be curious to find out the before/after effects of Chemical Peeling as I'll be personally reviewing it with real, UNEDITED photographs of my face.

Do not be shocked though as this will be the FIRST TIME I'm revealing my face naked of make-up. Ugly it'll be, but this shall be a honest review that you can actually make comparisons and decide its effectiveness.
(Give me some credits for the sacrifice, will ya?!?! Haha)

Before my first consultation with Dr Tyng Tan, I had butterflies in my stomach.
I didn't really know what to expect of the results; and was clouded by thousands of questions in my head. Will there be side effects? Will my skin be affected permanently? Is there any downtime? What if...??

It was a mixture of emotions. I was excited, anxious and scared at the same time while I was on my way to Aesthetics And Hair Clinic.
Fortunately, the clinic was easy to locate as it was situated in Ngee Ann City. My nervousness simmered as I stepped foot into the place.
I introduced myself and filled up a form with my particulars while waiting to meet Dr Tyng Tan, and took a quick pic of the waiting area with my camera before heading in - Look at all the media features!

Meeting Dr Tyng Tan face-to-face was a surreal experience. (Not to mention that she is pretty, too!) She asked about my area of concerns and gave wise advice accordingly. As I usually have the habit of using my fringe/bangs to cover my forehead, she advised me to use a hairband and keep them away from my forehead as well as they might be contributing factors to my acne issues.

After accessing my skin condition, I was good to go.
According to her, Chemical Peeling offers visible fantastic results and will improve my skin condition tremendously.

I was thrilled at the thought; but somehow I was worried at the same time.

Looking at Dr Tyng Tan, I asked the question that I was sure anyone would have asked,
"So... Will there be any side effect?"

With an all-serious face, she replied that there INDEED would be; and I have to be mentally prepared for the peeling of skin that would be quite obvious over the next 5-7 days (She recommended to do it before the weekend so there would be ample downtime).
Not only that, I have to take certain precautions as well, such as avoiding the sun as much as I can and applying sun-block.

Being the timid girl as I always am, I would usually shun away at those thoughts BUT eventually decided to go ahead with it as I thought about how life-changing it would for me should the treatment work its magic. Furthermore, I felt I could trust Dr Tyng Tan as she seemed really professional.

As the old saying goes, "No pain, no gain", right?!

"So.. Are you mentally prepared for the session?" Dr Tyng Tan asked with a smile.
"YES!" I replied.
So off I am to begin my journey of Chemical Peeling!

I was brought into a cosy room where I would be receiving my Chemical Peeling treatment, and had to lie on the stretch. (Somehow it reminded me of my dentist visit. Haha)

Now... Ready to see the frightening pic of me and the ugly acne on my skin?!
(My face looks fatter than usual as I was lying down when I self-shot them!)

Completely ZERO make-up, ZERO editing. All posted as raw as they could possibly be.

Here's a close-up of my acne on the forehead. I would never have imagined taking a photo of them and posting on my blog one day; and I just did! OMG.

Look at those ugly things on my chin!
OH GOD.

Dr Tyng Tan's lovely assistant proceeded to do basic cleansing on my face before the procedure. Since I came prepared without any make-up on, I spared her the trouble of some hard-core cleansing! Hahaha.

When Dr Tyng Tan came into the room after my face was cleansed, I suddenly got nervous.
I realized I forgot to ask her a very important question earlier.

"PAINFUL OR NOT AH??!!"

I am one who is quite fearful of pain, but I guess I was vulnerable at this stage now. *shudders*
Unfortunately, I wasn't guaranteed that the treatment would be painless as Dr Tyng Tan told me that it would have to depend on individual's threshold of pain.
According to her personal opinion, she said that one would experience mild discomfort; something like a burning sensation on the skin. (Okay... I guess that's kinda... ...acceptable)

But it wasn't that terrible afterall when she added,
The treatment procedure would only last for 2 minutes!

Sucking in a deep breath, I closed my eyes.

"Ready?" Dr Tyng Tan asked.
"Yep." I nodded slightly.
I could feel my nervousness kicking in again.

It was then that I felt a brush brushing against my face.. Softly.. OK this is it. This is IT!
*brush* *brush* *brush*

I was somehow on a "expecting-a-sharp-pain-anytime" mode but surprisingly didn't experience any.
Ok, probably it's just the beginning, I thought to myself.

Halfway through the process, Dr Tyng Tan asked if I was experiencing any discomfort or pain.

"How are you feeling now?" she asked.
"Yeah, I feel fine! No pain at all!!" I replied. (And it was true!)
I even felt ticklish at some point.
Before I knew it, there was the sound of alarm.

"Ok, we are done with the treatment."

"HUH?!"

It was faster than I imagined, and I was somehow relieved that it was totally PAINLESS for me.
I immediately grabbed my camera (what a dedicated blogger I am!! *self boasting*) and took a photo of my skin condition - and this is how I looked just 3 minutes after the treatment:

A closer look:
(Notice the redness?)
Looks painful; but actually not.

So you might be wondering how my skin felt like after the procedure.
Well, I touched my face and it felt tight and cold to the touch. I could feel as though there was a layer of "something" on it; that's all.

After the Chemical Peeling treatment, I was led to another small room to settle down. It was so cool as there was a small make-up area where I can put on my make-up if I wanted to.

I took a quick pic of myself in the room before heading back out - In here; you may realize that the redness from the treatment has subsided a little:
I purposely lifted my bangs so I could show you my forehead. It's the most problematic acne area:-

I asked Dr Tyng Tan several questions that I believe would be of concern to girls who are considering Chemical Peeling as an option:

1) Can I still apply make-up as usual after the treatment?
YES! :)

2) Can I still do my daily skincare routine such as facial mask, etc?
YES! :)

3) How long is the recovery process going to be?
Around 7 days!

Dr Tyng Tan pre-warned me that I would experience peeling throughout the recovery period (reminds me of a snake shedding its skin. LOL); and I am NOT to give in to the temptation of peeling the skin on purpose. (She did tell me that I would have the strong temptation of peeling them since its human nature!! Now.. that's a challenge.)

I was provided one Post Treatment Balm and a Topical Gel as well which I would have to apply twice on a daily basis; morning and night. (Now, I can't be lazy!)

Artistic pic of the Post Treatment Balm (LOL):

I kinda' like the feeling after application of the balm; my skin feels tight in a right way! LOL.

Here's the topical gel; in which I had to apply on the problematic acne areas.

*squeezes*

Since I knew I was going to do up this review, I got hardworking and took different photographs of my face on separate days so you can see for yourself if the treatment is taking effect!

Here are photos of my skin condition on Day 2:
(Kinda' unglamorous.. But well...It's part of the process!)

I did not really experience much peeling; probably only a little.
My acne seemed to have "dried up" instead.
Let me show you a photo of my chin area.

Remember how it looked like before?
I did a side-by-side comparison (Left: During the day of treatment; Right: Day 2)

And here's my skin condition on Day 3 after treatment:
I took this picture one hour after I woke up:
(Pardon my messy kitchen background! LOL)

No editing has been done to the pic at all. I swear!

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel that my skin condition looked nicer?!
(I went to work on the following Monday and one of my colleagues commented that my skin looked more radiant. I didn't tell anyone about my treatment at all and I was happy that someone actually noticed a difference after just ONE treatment?!)

Another close-up:

Day 3-6 has been pretty much stagnant; but I noticed my acne becoming less visible. I mean, they did not totally disappear - but it's obvious that my skin complexion was getting better!

Here's a photo of my condition after Day 7:

Got improve or not??! Let me do a comparison chart between my Day 1 and Day 7:
No editing done at all except for making the pic brighter on my "After Day 7" pic so you can have a clearer vision of my condition:

Yes, of course its not 100% yet but I am already impressed by the results since its only ONE treatment done! I would be returning to her clinic once every three weeks thereafter for more sessions and YES, my dear readers, do stay tuned for more to come!
I will be posting more photos of my Chemical Peeling sessions on this blog soon.
So follow me as I embark on this journey till the end of my treatment. :)

If you are someone who is deciding whether Chemical Peeling is for you or not, I'm sure my reviews will be helpful for you in one way or another.

Here's a photo of the recent me as I did an advertorial for Amore Silver.
I only put on eye-makeup while leaving the rest of my face untouched (not even BB cream or foundation at all!)

So... What are your opinions?! I hope you feel that there is an improvement, too! (I did!)
