Updates on Chemical Peeling - June 2018

It has been a long time since my last update on my chemical peeling process.

And I am here to debunk some of the myths surrounding chemical peeling.

I've received enquiries about chemical peeling and I thought it would be good to address them here from my perspective! I do hope it will be helpful/useful to many out there who are having doubts of the procedure.

1) How long have you been doing chemical peeling? Are there any side effects?

Answer: I think I have been doing chemical peeling treatment for the past... 4 years?! You may refer to my posts over the years. And yes, I am still with Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetic and Hair Clinic. (Seriously, she has gotta be the most friendliest doctor around!).
As for side effects, there isn't any (based on my own personal opinion). The only "side effects" I've gotten were rosy cheeks right after the procedure with a slight burning sensation, which is completely  normal! (It means that the chemical peeling is working its magic on your skin!) And the sensation only lasted for a good old 10 minutes at most.

2) Is it painful during the procedure? Don't you feel any form of pain, ever?

Answer: No. Like what I've mentioned above, the only feeling I've felt was a slight prickly burning sensation. It is totally bearable for me (I don't have a very high pain threshold, by the way) So, don't worry at all!

3) Did you really experience your skin "falling off" after the procedure?

Answer: Now that sounds funny..  Haha. No, I did not experience any skin peeling after the procedure. I remembered there was once or twice I did see white-colored tiny scabs on my face, but they were so minimal that I was not sure if those were resulted from chemical peeling. Nonetheless, I did not really bother about it. However, results vary for individuals. If you happen to experience skin peeling, just don't touch or peel anything from your face!

4) Does it take a long time for the chemical peeling process?

Answer: No, it's VERY fast. Before you even realise it, you are pretty much done! It will be around 15 - 20 minutes. It won't take up much of your time, which is a bonus point for busy individuals! In addition, they go by appointment basis, so you will be allocated a time slot.

5) Is there anything that you have to avoid after the procedure?

Answer: I guess it's only the sunlight for the time being? But no worries even if you have to go out under the sun. Just apply ample sunblock! The lovely staff at Dr Tyng Tan clinic will put on sunblock for you after the procedure and you can carry on your daily activities.

6) Do your pimples/acne/scars really disappear, like forever???

Answer: In all honesty, nothing is forever. Chemical peeling is effective in keeping your pimple and acne under control. At the same time, it diminishes existing scars (but you may have to go through a few sessions to see the evident results.) I do still experience new breakouts (but that is due to my laziness in removing make-up at times and hormonal changes during menstruation). However, I can definitely vouch that my condition is way better than before. I used to have full of pimples all over my forehead but they are all under control now, except for a few pop-outs here and there sometimes.

Here was an old pic... You will be amazed.

And this is an after-photo (Pardon the CUI face but I am just trying to show the effects on my forehead!) TOTALLY NO EDITING OR FILTER HOR.

7) Am I suitable for chemical peeling?

Answer: Honestly, this depends on each individual. Dr Tan will be accessing your skin condition during the consultation stage prior to any procedure being carried out. So no worries on that part. Based on her professionalism, she will be able to offer you the best advice as each person has different skin type and condition. You will be in good hands for sure! If you are interested in a consultation, do feel free to refer to the below details. (BONUS: Quote my blog sgcomplainqueen for a waiver of consultation fees!)

That's basically Part 1 of my answers to FAQs. Should you have any other questions, you can feel free to  e-mail me and I will try my best to answer you if I can!

Updates on my Chemical Peeling at Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetics and Hair Clinic

If you have been following my blog, I am sure you guys will remember that I have been undergoing Chemical Peeling aesthetic treatment for a period of time.

Yes, I am currently still going for Chemical Peeling on a monthly basis - and I do keep a record of my progress which I am going to share on my blog every now and then.
(Read till the end, you will be shocked by the "transformation" of my skin condition.)

I have many readers and friends asking me the same question, "Does it really work?"
I'll reveal the obvious answer below:-

This was how my skin condition looked like 2 YEARS AGO:
(You can read my old entry here)
Terrible acne issues mixed with scars... Honestly I was horrified when I looked back at this photo.

A close-up of my disgusting acne - They were all over my forehead!
Wa Lao eh... Can they look anymore disgusting?!?!

AND THIS IS MY CURRENT CONDITION, AFTER several CHEMICAL PEELING SESSIONS, in YEAR 2016:-

I took this photo RAW right after my recent Chemical Peeling session, absolutely no filter or editing. (And no make-up or concealer, too)
It was only taken under different lighting, but you can tell that most of my acne on forehead were gone!!

Almost magical.

No word can describe how elated I was when I saw the before/after difference.
Although I dare not say that my acne are completely gone, but I can safely say that they are now under control (I did get new acne during the inevitable pre-menstrual periods, but they were gone pretty quickly) - which I am very relieved.

Ever since I've began on my Chemical Peeling journey, I've received comments from friends and colleagues that they were able to "sense" something different about my skin. (And some of them were not even aware that I did Chemical Peeling. They just commented that my skin condition improved, which made me so happy like a madwoman. Seriously, it's a wonderful feeling to get rid of those irritating ugly-looking acne scars)

For those who are still doubtful of Chemical Peeling, I hope my results are evident enough to tell you otherwise.

That's me during a normal Chemical Peeling session: -

Yes, acne can be a real headache sometimes and it is NOT easy to get rid of them after they became scars. They made me really depressed at a point of time, especially when I am someone who do not like to depend on wearing make-up (not even foundation!!) on a daily basis.
I am just glad that Chemical Peeling works for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking a solution for your acne issues.

There may be several clinics in Singapore offering Chemical Peeling treatments, but do bear in mind that having a good doctor to do the job is equally important

Sometimes, it's not about the price - but the quality of the services that are being delivered.
So far, my face has always been in the good hands of Dr Tyng Tan.

She's such a lovely doctor who never fails to make me smile whenever I went for my sessions. I remembered how I used to be really nervous during my first few sessions of Chemical Peeling, but she had always put my worries at ease. (Thank you, Dr Tyng Tan!)

If any of you are interested in Dr Tyng Tan's services in Chemical Peeling, you can read more information about it here and contact the clinic for any questions too!!:
Don't say I never share ah!!

Updates on my Chemical Peeling Treatment sessions!

Several readers have written in and asked me some topics regarding the Chemical Peeling Treatments that I am still undergoing.

And I have made a short video featuring the whole process of one of my chemical peeling sessions.  If you are wondering what to expect from the sessions, I believe you will understand better after watching this!
(Pardon me as I usually do not put on make-up prior to my treatment sessions; so I am definitely not looking my best in there.... Whatever you see, is called natural beauty. *inserts a hao lian look here*)

(Credits to Dokiboy for the filming!)

Here comes the most common question:
Is it really effective? Does it work just after one session?

Since I have undergone so many sessions now, I shall give my verdict based on my personal experiences. (Please do note that what I feel does not necessarily mean that everyone will feel the same way as results vary from individual to individual!)

I would say Chemical Peeling works for me as the acne on my forehead has been cleared up pretty well now! I could look back at my old pictures and gasp in horror.
However, this does not mean that the acne issues will stop there forever.
YES, you still have to be responsible of taking good care of your skin, and there are times when pre-menstrual symptoms will inevitably cause acne to appear. These are normal.

On usual days, I would find that my skin condition has improved tremendously - Even my friends couldn't stop emphasizing how obvious the results were from time to time.
OF COURSE IT MADE ME SO HAPPY.

I used to be a lazy person who didn't care much about skincare routine - but I am taking better care of my skin now by applying facial products daily.

If you are wondering what Chemical Peeling is all about or is interested to try out at least one session to see if it works for you, here's a recommendation: (Trust me, Dr Tyng Tan is one of the friendliest and knowledgeable doctors I've ever came across!! You can leave your face in her safe and good hands. Haha.)

My Chemical Peeling Journey - 2nd session with Dr Tyng Tan

After my first Chemical Peeling session (click here to read about it), I have returned for my 2nd one last week!
I know there are readers who have inquired about the prices, etc, so do read on if you would like to find out more at the end of this post!

There are more *juicy* photographs for you readers out there this time as I have brought a kind friend along who agreed to be my photographer of the day (Thank you!)

So here I am again for my 2nd visit to Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetic and Hair Clinic located at Ngee Ann City!

I hope I don't scare any of you off with my makeup-less face; but here goes - Yours truly getting ready for the Chemical Peeling session.

Dr Tyng Tan commented that my skin complexion has gotten better since my first treatment. I was showered with positive compliments from friends too so I am really thankful that Chemical Peeling works well for me!
*happy*
Of course - I still have to go through a few more sessions to achieve the desired results.
Yes, I experienced stress for a short period and had mild outbreak since my first session.

Here's how the process actually looked like; which was not featured earlier in my first post as I went alone.
And this is Dr Tyng Tan's lovely assistant, Vivian (I love chatting with her! She's so friendly :)) , helping out with the basic cleansing of my face before the procedure:

Look at how focused she was! Haha.
(And I think I looked like I was in a damn relaxed state)

*cleanse* *cleanse*
Seriously, it indeed felt kinda' relaxing - as though I am in the midst of a facial session!

It was a speedy cleansing phase - and Dr Tyng Tan came into the room next to proceed on with my Chemical Peeling session!

Yes - Here's the professional Dr Tyng Tan at work! :)

.
Nope - The session hasn't begun yet.
It's just the preparatory stage.

LOL - The thought of having a smoother and brighter complexion again made me happy.

OK... Now it's starting...
(As it was my 2nd time, I was not feeling as nervous as my first since I somehow knew what to expect.)

I know this may probably look like a painful procedure, but trust me - It is not AT ALL from my personal perspective.
Dr Tyng Tan was very thoughtful and cautious throughout the process ; and was continuously checking if I would experience any discomfort.

And yep - the whole Chemical Peeling process only lasted for a standard 2 minutes (Yes, there's not even enough time for you to fear or worry about!)
Before you know it, you are done with the session!

So what is my 2nd experience like?
I would say that I did feel itchiness on certain parts of my face after the procedure but they went away pretty quickly. (Around 5 - 10 minutes!)

Here's my face being "cleaned" up - Totally unedited:

And this photo is specially taken to show you how my face looked like immediately after the procedure - There was slight redness (especially on my forehead area) as pictured.
But I think it wasn't too bad, was it?

My friend caught a nice moment pic of Dr Tyng Tan and I in the midst of a chat!
Yeah, she's a very friendly lady!

Vivian was soon back to pat some sunblock on my face as I was heading out that day after the chemical peeling session.
(A tip that I learned from her: Never RUB sunblock on your face. Just pat gently on the surface area of your face so that it will remain as a protective layer instead of letting it ABSORB into your skin; which is wrong)

Yes, one thing about chemical peeling is that one cannot be exposed to the sun as much as possible! Other than that, I was able to resume to normal activities. *smiles in glee*
My friend commented that I didn't look disastrous or anything after the chemical peeling session too - so that was a plus point!

Now I'm officially done with my 2nd session!

So you might be wondering how my skin complexion looks like currently at Day 7 - Which I have just taken today!
Here's a close-up, totally unedited with only brightness enhancement due to the dim lighting.
Similarly like my previous session, it's not 100% flawless - but definitely a GREAT improvement to my skin complexion.
Somehow, I feel more confident going out with a naked face after my 2 Chemical Peeling sessions. Unlike the past, I was ALWAYS paranoid after being photographed without any make-up on. My skin would look so disastrous that I had to to some filtering  or editing to make it look look...erm..better.

Not exactly 100% obvious changes, but acne scars became apparently lighter and skin has a smoother complexion.

So hey - I am really thankful to witness my skin coming to life again after those amazing chemical sessions.
My skin did not experience much visible peeling (I guess that's a good thing throughout the downtime period of 5 days. However, I had to practice caution when going out (I purchased a sunblock of SPF 50+!) and carry an umbrella at all times. It sure doesn't help having such a super HOT weather (so HOT that it's bizarre) nowadays and I felt as though my skin is going to burn anytime. *paranoid*

And YES - I'll be answering questions that some of you have asked after I posted my first entry with regards to Chemical Peeling, which is the PRICE.
It's $150 per session, and there is no FIXED number of sessions that you must "sign up" for. (There are readers asking me if there are any special rates for packages as well. For that, you'll have to call the clinic at +65 62350010 to enquire more details about it if you are really determined to find out more!)

Different individuals experience different results - Some may be just contented with one session.
Of course, the most ideal option is to have Dr Tyng Tan access your skin condition before deciding on the number of sessions that your skin will require.

I'll be going for 5 sessions in total - So yeah, 3 more to go and I'm really excited about the results!
Of course, I will be blogging all of my sessions down on here.. So do check back my blog for my 3rd session! :)

My Chemical Peeling Journey with Dr Tyng Tan

As many of you know, I have been plagued by constant Acne issues (The condition wasn't that bad initially; but somehow got worst during my late teenage years due to factors such as exam stress, etc)
Like most lazy bums, I am one who did not really bother to do adequate facial care and used make-up to conceal my acne whenever I attend events, etc. Heck, I only have my ownself to blame for encouraging the growth of acne on my skin!

Somehow, I didn't have much confidence whenever I was seen without make-up (I even have friends appearing shocked and asking me about my acne when I met them without make-up on!) I was saddened. At the same time, I was at a loss of solutions.

As troubled as I was (and with my endless search of solutions), I came to learn about several treatments that *might* revive my skin.
Not sure if you guys have heard of it before, but that's Chemical Peeling. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_peel)

It is something I would never have imagined myself doing, but somehow I was quite tempted by the positive results that I have seen online.
There are actually not many clinics in Singapore that offer such treatments (even if there are, finding a GOOD doctor is another issue as I believe nobody wishes to risk their face should it fall in to the wrong hands!!)

So...After much sourcing and consideration, I decided to take the plunge and settle for Aesthetics And Hair Clinic by Dr Tyng Tan.

So.. What is a Chemical Peeling, you ask?
As quoted on Wiki, "A chemical peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin."

I'm sure you guys will be curious to find out the before/after effects of Chemical Peeling as I'll be personally reviewing it with real, UNEDITED photographs of my face.

Do not be shocked though as this will be the FIRST TIME I'm revealing my face naked of make-up. Ugly it'll be, but this shall be a honest review that you can actually make comparisons and decide its effectiveness.
(Give me some credits for the sacrifice, will ya?!?! Haha)

Before my first consultation with Dr Tyng Tan, I had butterflies in my stomach.
I didn't really know what to expect of the results; and was clouded by thousands of questions in my head. Will there be side effects? Will my skin be affected permanently? Is there any downtime? What if...??

It was a mixture of emotions. I was excited, anxious and scared at the same time while I was on my way to Aesthetics And Hair Clinic.
Fortunately, the clinic was easy to locate as it was situated in Ngee Ann City. My nervousness simmered as I stepped foot into the place.
I introduced myself and filled up a form with my particulars while waiting to meet Dr Tyng Tan, and took a quick pic of the waiting area with my camera before heading in - Look at all the media features!

Meeting Dr Tyng Tan face-to-face was a surreal experience. (Not to mention that she is pretty, too!) She asked about my area of concerns and gave wise advice accordingly. As I usually have the habit of using my fringe/bangs to cover my forehead, she advised me to use a hairband and keep them away from my forehead as well as they might be contributing factors to my acne issues.

After accessing my skin condition, I was good to go.
According to her, Chemical Peeling offers visible fantastic results and will improve my skin condition tremendously.

I was thrilled at the thought; but somehow I was worried at the same time.

Looking at Dr Tyng Tan, I asked the question that I was sure anyone would have asked,
"So... Will there be any side effect?"

With an all-serious face, she replied that there INDEED would be; and I have to be mentally prepared for the peeling of skin that would be quite obvious over the next 5-7 days (She recommended to do it before the weekend so there would be ample downtime).
Not only that, I have to take certain precautions as well, such as avoiding the sun as much as I can and applying sun-block.

Being the timid girl as I always am, I would usually shun away at those thoughts BUT eventually decided to go ahead with it as I thought about how life-changing it would for me should the treatment work its magic. Furthermore, I felt I could trust Dr Tyng Tan as she seemed really professional.

As the old saying goes, "No pain, no gain", right?!

"So.. Are you mentally prepared for the session?" Dr Tyng Tan asked with a smile.
"YES!" I replied.
So off I am to begin my journey of Chemical Peeling!

I was brought into a cosy room where I would be receiving my Chemical Peeling treatment, and had to lie on the stretch. (Somehow it reminded me of my dentist visit. Haha)

Now... Ready to see the frightening pic of me and the ugly acne on my skin?!
(My face looks fatter than usual as I was lying down when I self-shot them!)

Completely ZERO make-up, ZERO editing. All posted as raw as they could possibly be.

Here's a close-up of my acne on the forehead. I would never have imagined taking a photo of them and posting on my blog one day; and I just did! OMG.

Look at those ugly things on my chin!
OH GOD.

Dr Tyng Tan's lovely assistant proceeded to do basic cleansing on my face before the procedure. Since I came prepared without any make-up on, I spared her the trouble of some hard-core cleansing! Hahaha.

When Dr Tyng Tan came into the room after my face was cleansed, I suddenly got nervous.
I realized I forgot to ask her a very important question earlier.

"PAINFUL OR NOT AH??!!"

I am one who is quite fearful of pain, but I guess I was vulnerable at this stage now. *shudders*
Unfortunately, I wasn't guaranteed that the treatment would be painless as Dr Tyng Tan told me that it would have to depend on individual's threshold of pain.
According to her personal opinion, she said that one would experience mild discomfort; something like a burning sensation on the skin. (Okay... I guess that's kinda... ...acceptable)

But it wasn't that terrible afterall when she added,
The treatment procedure would only last for 2 minutes!

Sucking in a deep breath, I closed my eyes.

"Ready?" Dr Tyng Tan asked.
"Yep." I nodded slightly.
I could feel my nervousness kicking in again.

It was then that I felt a brush brushing against my face.. Softly.. OK this is it. This is IT!
*brush* *brush* *brush*

I was somehow on a "expecting-a-sharp-pain-anytime" mode but surprisingly didn't experience any.
Ok, probably it's just the beginning, I thought to myself.

Halfway through the process, Dr Tyng Tan asked if I was experiencing any discomfort or pain.

"How are you feeling now?" she asked.
"Yeah, I feel fine! No pain at all!!" I replied. (And it was true!)
I even felt ticklish at some point.
Before I knew it, there was the sound of alarm.

"Ok, we are done with the treatment."

"HUH?!"

It was faster than I imagined, and I was somehow relieved that it was totally PAINLESS for me.
I immediately grabbed my camera (what a dedicated blogger I am!! *self boasting*) and took a photo of my skin condition - and this is how I looked just 3 minutes after the treatment:

A closer look:
(Notice the redness?)
Looks painful; but actually not.

So you might be wondering how my skin felt like after the procedure.
Well, I touched my face and it felt tight and cold to the touch. I could feel as though there was a layer of "something" on it; that's all.

After the Chemical Peeling treatment, I was led to another small room to settle down. It was so cool as there was a small make-up area where I can put on my make-up if I wanted to.

I took a quick pic of myself in the room before heading back out - In here; you may realize that the redness from the treatment has subsided a little:
I purposely lifted my bangs so I could show you my forehead. It's the most problematic acne area:-

I asked Dr Tyng Tan several questions that I believe would be of concern to girls who are considering Chemical Peeling as an option:

1) Can I still apply make-up as usual after the treatment?
YES! :)

2) Can I still do my daily skincare routine such as facial mask, etc?
YES! :)

3) How long is the recovery process going to be?
Around 7 days!

Dr Tyng Tan pre-warned me that I would experience peeling throughout the recovery period (reminds me of a snake shedding its skin. LOL); and I am NOT to give in to the temptation of peeling the skin on purpose. (She did tell me that I would have the strong temptation of peeling them since its human nature!! Now.. that's a challenge.)

I was provided one Post Treatment Balm and a Topical Gel as well which I would have to apply twice on a daily basis; morning and night. (Now, I can't be lazy!)

Artistic pic of the Post Treatment Balm (LOL):

I kinda' like the feeling after application of the balm; my skin feels tight in a right way! LOL.

Here's the topical gel; in which I had to apply on the problematic acne areas.

*squeezes*

Since I knew I was going to do up this review, I got hardworking and took different photographs of my face on separate days so you can see for yourself if the treatment is taking effect!

Here are photos of my skin condition on Day 2:
(Kinda' unglamorous.. But well...It's part of the process!)

I did not really experience much peeling; probably only a little.
My acne seemed to have "dried up" instead.
Let me show you a photo of my chin area.

Remember how it looked like before?
I did a side-by-side comparison (Left: During the day of treatment; Right: Day 2)

And here's my skin condition on Day 3 after treatment:
I took this picture one hour after I woke up:
(Pardon my messy kitchen background! LOL)

No editing has been done to the pic at all. I swear!

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel that my skin condition looked nicer?!
(I went to work on the following Monday and one of my colleagues commented that my skin looked more radiant. I didn't tell anyone about my treatment at all and I was happy that someone actually noticed a difference after just ONE treatment?!)

Another close-up:

Day 3-6 has been pretty much stagnant; but I noticed my acne becoming less visible. I mean, they did not totally disappear - but it's obvious that my skin complexion was getting better!

Here's a photo of my condition after Day 7:

Got improve or not??! Let me do a comparison chart between my Day 1 and Day 7:
No editing done at all except for making the pic brighter on my "After Day 7" pic so you can have a clearer vision of my condition:

Yes, of course its not 100% yet but I am already impressed by the results since its only ONE treatment done! I would be returning to her clinic once every three weeks thereafter for more sessions and YES, my dear readers, do stay tuned for more to come!
I will be posting more photos of my Chemical Peeling sessions on this blog soon.
So follow me as I embark on this journey till the end of my treatment. :)

If you are someone who is deciding whether Chemical Peeling is for you or not, I'm sure my reviews will be helpful for you in one way or another.

Here's a photo of the recent me as I did an advertorial for Amore Silver.
I only put on eye-makeup while leaving the rest of my face untouched (not even BB cream or foundation at all!)

So... What are your opinions?! I hope you feel that there is an improvement, too! (I did!)
